ON:
Sarah had just decided to join the rest of the team at the club when she received a message that that newest and final member of their team was arriving at the front Gate, and would soon be delivered to the main building. Alder wanted her to show her to her room, and help her get settled. She watched the van pull away right as the Towncar pulled up. Oh well, she could catch a ride later. She walked out front and waited with her hands clasped behind her back for the new girl to exit the vehicle.
-
The Towncar arrived at a large glass building. It’d taken a few moments for them to get through the security, it was set up how she always imagined US Military instillations would be. Though she reminded herself, this was technically a civilian company, despite the fact she now held a rank of Private. The drive got out and went to open her door, but she beat him to it, so instead he went and opened the truck to remove her bag. She’d packed hastily, as she’d needed to get out fast. Besides, if what she was told about her pay here was accurate, she’d be able to acquire new things quickly. Since accepting her new life, she’d been looking for a family type unit to get involved with, but she just couldn’t bring herself to join the ladies at the church and community center, and she never fit in right with the guys, she could do everything they could do, but she always felt like they treated her different likely because of her looks. She saw a woman waiting and assumed it was for her. She collected her back and approached.
-
“Private Kelsi Becker?” she asked then when getting an affirmative, she extended a hand “Lieutenant Sarah Barrett, I’m the teams spotter.”
-
Kelsi took the offered hand and failed to hide the shock that there was another girl on the team. It was her experience, mostly from TV, and a few run in’s with SWAT and other law enforcement teams that it was mostly a boys club. “Pleasure to meet you, I must admit, I’m surprised to see another girl on the team.”
-
Sarah motioned for her to follow and grabbed on of her bags, “Actually the team is about half and half. Aside from you and myself, there is also our Teams XO and Intelligence Specialist, Major Margo Vincent, and our Engineering Specialist, Private Sonya Stabler. The other side of the field has the team leader, Colonel Garrett Alder, he’s also the teams sniper, he like to be able to control us from an overwatch position when possible. Private Brett Tanner, Vehicle Specialist, and Corporals Richard Keyes, and Franz Huber, Medical and Comms respectively.” She said as she walked them through the front door and approached the security desk.
-
“Four and Four huh?” she said surprised. They reached the desk, the guard asked for ID. She gave him the one she’d been issued. He entered some information in the computer and waited for a bit, soon it fed him everything he’d needed to see. Her background and clearance were both good, he took her finger prints, retinal scan, and voice sample, added them to her profile, then handed her a tablet. “That’s your company issued tablet, you’ll receive all your messages and what not from there, it’s also your primary access key to most areas, your expected to keep it with you at all times while on duty, as well as when you are in any SDS facilities.” She looked it over, looked like it was a custom OS with access to just about everything she’d need. She’d look it over more later. “Thank you.” She responded, “Our records show you are in a single, correct?” She thought about it a moment, then realized he was probably referring to family, “Yes, I’m the only one.” He nodded, and wrote something down on a card then passed it to her, “You are in unit 5017, elevators behind me will take you to the 5th floor. Your tablet will unlock them automatically.” She looked at it then nodded her approval. “Thank you again.” She said then looked towards Sarah.
-
Sarah smiled and motioned her towards them. “Your tablet will only allow you to go to the 5th floor, but if you make friends, they can authorize you to visit them.” She said as she pushed the button. She was higher up in the building in the Officers units. The doors to the elevator opened and permitted them entry. Sarah hit the button for the 5th floor and they were off.
-
“Thank you for your help.” She said following her to the elevator. The ride was short, and soon she was at her unit. Her tablet vibrated as they approached, she looked at it, and hit the unlock button, with a click her door unlocked. She opened it and was surprised by what she found. The room was reasonably spacious. She’d expected something about the size of a motel 6, but was pleasantly surprised. It only had the main room and the bathroom, but it was reasonably spacious, had a small kitchen, and a nice bathroom. “Wow, these guys don’t scrimp do they?”
-
Sarah smiled again, “Not they take care of their own… given the standard grunts don’t get quite this nice of a room, but you are part of a special team, so get access to the NCO rooms.” She gave her a moment to look around, “We have 3 chow halls at the facility, the closest is just down stairs, there is also one at the Admin building, and another by the training grounds, we have a few restaurants just outside the gate, and the transportation office can arrange to give you a ride there, as well as to the mall intown, or anywhere really.” Sarah pulled her own tablet out of her pocket and turned it on “You can find a map of the facility as well as the local area here, and it has normal internet access. It’s already programed to filter your connection and packets, so you can’t send any sensitive information from the tablet. Other than that, it should be pretty self-explanatory. Any questions?”
-
Kelsi thought for a moment, she was feeling slightly overwhelmed by her new life, “When do I meet the team?” she asked finally. She was worried about them finding out about her former life, but for some reason anxious to start trying to fit in.
-
Sarah shrugged, “Well, I assume you’ve met Alder already, I’m actually getting ready to head to a club in town, most of the team is already there, you are welcome to join.”
-
Kelsi nodded, “Can I have 5 minutes to change?”
-
Sarah smiled, “Sure, meet you in the lobby in 5.” With that, she turned and exited.
